The Scuderia Estoras team returned to Sumas International for another round of the NWKA Championship. Trey Arzen was our sole entry and delivered a strong performance filled with progress, strategy, and perseverance.
Race Day 1 – Saturday
Trey hit the ground running, showing promising speed right from the first practice. However, as Friday’s sessions went on, the field tightened and Trey found himself slipping slightly down the order. By Happy Hour, running on older tires, he ended P8 in group—less than ideal but still within reach of a competitive starting spot.
Come qualifying, things got a bit chaotic as some drivers decided it was time to race rather than focus on clean laps. Despite the traffic, Trey pushed through and locked in a solid P6 in group. That result placed him 3rd for the pre-final in his group.
In the pre-final, Trey maintained great composure and racecraft, holding onto P3 to secure a P6 starting spot for the main event.
At the start of the main, a major wreck unfolded in Turn 1. Trey reacted quickly and slipped through the chaos, emerging in 2nd. However, with so many karts involved, officials threw a red flag on lap 3 and called for a full restart. With the karts now sitting stationary in the shade, tire pressures dropped—hurting grip off the line. On the restart, Trey fell back to 8th but battled back lap by lap, eventually crossing the line in 6th and clocking the second-fastest lap of the race.
Race Day 2 – Sunday
Sunday didn’t start as well. A rough qualifying session saw Trey down in P22 overall, placing him 11th in group for the pre-final. Still, he kept his head down and clawed his way forward to finish 5th on track. Unfortunately, a jump start penalty pushed him back to 8th in the final classification.
Starting the main from P16, Trey dug deep. With consistent lap times and smart overtakes, he climbed through the pack—eventually taking the checkered flag in 4th. But once penalties were assessed post-race, Trey was promoted to an impressive P2 finish, capping off a very strong recovery drive.
Final Thoughts
A weekend of highs and lessons learned for Trey Arzen and the SE team. Despite some setbacks and tricky conditions, Trey showed composure, adaptability, and pace when it mattered. We leave Sumas proud of the effort and excited for what’s next.
Thank you to NWKA and the event organizers for another great weekend of racing.Onward to the next challenge!
